Stress is the most common problem in human societies today. Because of particular factors including age, physiological and social factors, young people are specifically affected by stress complications. This is a descriptive, analytic research which attempts to determine stress rate and related factors. The randomized study was done in 114 students of the Nursing and Midwifery Faculty of Hamadan Medical University (June 2000). Students were studied for stress rate and related factors.

Data were gathered by questionnaires which were completed by the students. Epi6 software was used to analyze data. Results indicate that 60.4% cases had minimum stress, 37.8% were experiencing moderate stress, and 1.8% suffered from severe stress. 50.9% of students reported some problems such as low motivation, depression, low self esteem and dissatisfaction with life, education, etc.

The most common causes of these problems were lack of social support and lack of university support. A statistically significant correlation was found between the stress rate and prevalence of sings of stress, course of study, term, family size and socioeconomic status (P0.05) between the stress rate and sex, age, marital status, native- non- native status.
Conclusion: The findings showed that understanding and control predisposing factors of stress and mental disorders may have an important role in preventing these problems in students.
