The experts of the World Health Organization declare that there is good reason to believe that this figure could be reduced by at least 50% if proper preventive measures were taken.

Main causes of epilepsy, risk factors and preventive measures have been discussed. The major part of this paper is a translation of the World Health Organization publication on ” Primary Prevention of Mental Neurological and Psychological Disorders”, and some recent data from ONLINE has been added.
